None of them can do it on their own. Not Claude, not ChatGPT, not Perplexity, not Grok. Ask any of them what your house is worth this morning and you will get a confident-sounding number built on public records and whatever the model absorbed a year ago, because not one of them has MLS access. That is not a knock on the models. It is a data problem, and I wrote about why AI cannot tell you what is actually for sale back when there was nothing any of us could do about it.
So here is what changed in 2026. Anthropic, OpenAI, Perplexity, and xAI all shipped the same feature, custom connectors, which is a fancy way of saying you can hand the assistant a live data source yourself. And I built one on the Austin MLS. Which means you can now ask AI what your home is worth and get a number built on closed sales instead of guesswork. It is free, it takes about two minutes, and this post is the map of which assistant can actually use it.
Claude is the one I have personally tested
Anthropic’s own support docs say custom connectors work on every Claude plan, free accounts included. Free gets you one custom connector, and this is a pretty good one to spend it on right. That detail matters more than it sounds. It means you do not need a subscription to get a real answer about your own house, which is not a sentence I expected to write this year.
I have run this flow end to end more times than I want to admit, mostly because I kept finding new ways to break it (turns out I am very good at that). The step-by-step is here: How to Ask Claude What Your Home Is Worth. Start there if you just want the number today.
The other three can run it too
ChatGPT supports custom connectors on paid plans, Plus and up. Perplexity added them on March 13, 2026 for Pro, Max, and Enterprise. Grok has them on all accounts. All four speak the same connector standard, which is the entire reason any of this works. But I have only verified the Claude flow myself, start to finish, with my own hands. ChatGPT is next and I will link each walkthrough here as I test it. I am not going to tell you a thing works when I have not sat there and made it work.
What the connector actually does
Ok, honest description. Name, email, and an optional phone number, that is the whole sign-up. It finds your property, and then it starts asking you the same questions I would ask standing in your entryway: what condition is the house in, what have you actually updated, and why do you want the number. That last one moves the answer more than people expect (a divorce number and a lets-see-what-it-would-bring number are not the same number).
Then it gives you a value range pulled from closed MLS sales, along with a plain statement of what it does not know. A range, not a single figure. Taleb makes the point that a single-point forecast is just the wrong shape of answer, and that is exactly right here. Anybody handing you your home value down to the dollar is selling you something.
Two limits, stated flat out. It only covers the Austin area, which for this tool means Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop, Caldwell, Burnet, and Blanco counties. If your house is in Dallas it does nothing for you (I get asked about Houston and Dallas almost weekly, and the answer is still no), and I would rather you hear that now than after you sign up. And it is not a CMA. It is an automated first pass, and every report comes with a free CMA that I put together myself, because software cannot walk your kitchen and notice the countertops.
Setup link, works for any of the four: neuhausre.com/claude.
Why bother with any of this
Because the alternative is what most people do, which is type an address into a chat window and take the guess. I ran that experiment on purpose and wrote up what ChatGPT told me my own house was worth. It was not close. But the model was not being dumb, it was being asked to do a job with none of the information the job requires. Give it the closed sales and it gets useful in a hurry, no big deal right.
