Both Schools Are in Southwest Austin ISD. Both Draw From Master Planned Communities. One Scored 3 Points Higher.
Kiker Elementary scored a 93 out of 100 on the 2025 TEA accountability rating. Carpenter Hill Elementary scored a 90. Both are A rated campuses in Austin ISD, both serve southwest Austin’s premier master planned communities, and the gap between them is just 3 points. This is not a story about one school crushing another. This is about two genuinely strong campuses where the differences come down to neighborhood character, price point, and feeder patterns.
Kiker draws from Circle C Ranch. Carpenter Hill draws from Shady Hollow and the neighborhoods south of Slaughter Lane. I have sold homes in both zones for years, and the buyers who end up in each tend to have slightly different priorities. But from a pure academic standpoint, you really cannot go wrong with either one.
So what separates them? Lets look at the data and the neighborhoods to find out.

TEA School Performance Comparison (2025)
The Texas Education Agency evaluates every public school annually across multiple performance domains. Here is how both campuses performed in the 2025 accountability cycle.
| Performance Metric | Carpenter Hill Elementary | Kiker Elementary |
|---|---|---|
| Overall Rating | A (90/100) | A (93/100) |
| Student Achievement | A (92/100) | A (92/100) |
| School Progress | B (86/100) | A (93/100) |
| Academic Growth | B (86/100) | A (93/100) |
| Closing the Gaps | C (76/100) | C (70/100) |
| Enrollment | N/A | 748 students (EE – 05) |
| Economically Disadvantaged | N/A | 4.3% |
| English Learners | N/A | 8.3% |
| TEA Distinctions | 0 of 7 earned | 0 of 7 earned |
Both schools posted an A at 92 for Student Achievement, which means their students are performing at essentially the same level on state assessments. The separation comes in School Progress and Academic Growth, where Kiker scored 93 (A) in both while Carpenter Hill scored 86 (B). That 7 point gap in the growth domains is what gives Kiker the higher overall rating.
But here is the flip side: Carpenter Hill actually outscored Kiker in Closing the Gaps, 76 to 70. Neither score is great (both are Cs), but the fact that Carpenter Hill does better on equity metrics is worth noting. Neither school earned any TEA distinctions in 2025, which is a bit surprising for two A rated campuses.

Kiker Elementary: Circle C’s Crown Jewel
I covered Kiker in detail in my Oak Hill vs Kiker comparison, so I will keep this brief. The school is the academic anchor of Circle C Ranch, one of Austin’s most complete master planned communities. A 93 overall with A scores in three domains is excellent. The community infrastructure (pools, parks, trails, retail village) makes Circle C one of the most self contained neighborhoods in all of Austin ISD. The $777,500 median home price reflects all of that.
Carpenter Hill Elementary: Shady Hollow’s Quiet Achiever
Carpenter Hill does not get the same name recognition as Kiker, but it should. An A at 90 is a strong score, and the 92 in Student Achievement matches Kiker point for point. The campus serves the Shady Hollow community and surrounding neighborhoods south of Slaughter Lane. Shady Hollow is a well established community with a pool, community center, and a neighborhood feel that rivals Circle C in many ways.
The median home price at $812,500 is actually higher than Kiker’s $777,500, which surprises some buyers. The Carpenter Hill zone includes some larger lot properties and custom homes that push the median up. The tradeoff is a slightly higher price for a campus that is 3 points lower on TEA but scores 6 points higher on Closing the Gaps.
The feeder pattern runs through Bailey or Small Middle School and then to Bowie or Crockett High School. Bowie is one of Austin ISD’s flagship high schools, so the K through 12 pipeline from Carpenter Hill is strong regardless of which middle school an address feeds into.
The Neighborhoods
Circle C Ranch and Shady Hollow are both master planned communities in southwest Austin with strong amenities and established reputations. Circle C tends to feel slightly more upscale and self contained. Shady Hollow has a more laid back, neighborhood feel with slightly larger lots in some sections. Both are convenient to MoPac, Slaughter Lane, and the Brodie Lane retail corridor.

Which School Fits You?
You might lean toward Kiker if:
- You want the highest overall TEA score between the two (93 vs 90)
- The Circle C Ranch master planned community is your preferred neighborhood
- Stronger School Progress and Academic Growth scores (both 93) matter to you
You might lean toward Carpenter Hill if:
- Shady Hollow’s neighborhood character and slightly larger lots appeal to you
- The stronger Closing the Gaps score (76 vs 70) is important
- You prefer the Bailey Middle School feeder over Gorzycki
This is genuinely one of the hardest comparisons to call in southwest Austin. Both are A rated. Both serve great neighborhoods. Both feed into strong high schools. If I had to pick, I would give a slight edge to Kiker based on the overall TEA score and the Circle C amenity package. But honestly, you cannot go wrong with either one. This is a good problem to have.
