If you’ve ever picked up the phone and gotten an “assistant” who’s calling to schedule time with their boss, you know the feeling. They can’t answer your real questions. They can’t make a decision. They’re just there to put something on a calendar so the actual person can pitch you later. And honestly, every time that happens to me, I think the same thing: if you’re too busy to call me yourself, I’m too busy to talk to you.
I’m the principal of my organization. When I’m thinking about hiring someone, working with a vendor, or evaluating a service, I want to talk to the principal of theirs. Not a hired hand reading from a script. Not eight missed calls with no voicemail from a number I don’t recognize. The reality is, when somebody outsources the first impression, they’re telling you exactly how the rest of the relationship is going to go.
So I’ve decided I’m not going to do business that way either. No call setters working for me. No appointment chasers blowing up your phone. If you call my office or fill out a form on neuhausre.com, you’re going to get me. That’s the whole point. I figured if I don’t like being on the receiving end of it, I shouldn’t be the one dishing it out.
